Share Fake News on Facebook, Lose the Right to Buy Ads
In its latest effort to fight faux news, Facebook on Mon announced that Pages which repeatedly share stories marked as fake will no longer be allowed to annunciate on the social network.
"This update will aid to reduce the distribution of simulated news which will go on Pages that spread false news from making money," Facebook Product Managers Satwik Shukla and Tessa Lyons wrote in a blog mail service. "Nosotros've establish instances of Pages using Facebook ads to build their audiences in order to distribute false news more than broadly."
Now, if a Page repeatedly shares stories that are marked equally simulated by 3rd-party fact checkers, they won't be able to buy ads on the platform. If the Page stops sharing fake news, Facebook may elevator the ban.
"Today's update helps to disrupt the economic incentives and adjourn the spread of fake news, which is some other step towards edifice a more informed customs on Facebook," Shukla and Lyons wrote.
The motion comes after Facebook in November updated the policy for its Audience Network production to say information technology won't brandish ads in apps or on sites containing fake news stories.
